Cape Town cuisine meets Germany - Aubergine Restaurant in the Black Forst
We have been travelling to South Africa since 2003, and each time we visit our favorite restaurant, the Aubergine Restaurant in Cape Town. Back home in Germany it was great to hear that renowned chef Harald Bresselschmidt would come to the Black Forest, Germany, for a South Africa dinner event. For us a good opportunity for a nice weekend excursion.
So in September 2014 we went to Gernsbach, a small town in the Black Forest, Germany, where Harald would show his culinary art during a dinner event on the beautiful historic Castle Eberstein. Castle Eberstein itself produces fine wines and offer high quality accommodation and dining experience, being the perfect place for a fine dining experience with South African touch.
It was on Saturday, 26th, and the evening started in the castle's patio with diverse little appetizers and a glass of bubbly. The event was fully booked with roundabout 70 people, and a 5 course menu was served, each course with pairing wine. My favorite course was the cured Blesbok loin (I love South African meat!), accented by Shiraz-Basting with potato-Kalahari truffle, savoy cabbage, poppyseed foam. With the Blesbok a Luddite Shiraz 2008 was served from a 9-Liter-Salmanasar - never before seen such a big bottle of wine! The wine was an excellent choice!
The dinner ended late with a great desert: Composition of spicy Chocolate with Mango and Pineapple lichi sorbet and green tea ice cream and a matching sweet wine.
Harald told us that he has a special connection with Castle Eberstein through the castle's cook who was with him in Cape Town for a while. This led to this wonderful event.
